Porsche Offers Women's Only Performance Driving Course

Ap_women_only When I attended the New York Auto Show back in May, I met Porsche's PR honcho Gary Fong, who told me that their statistics show more women are buying Porsches than ever before. We speculated over the various reasons for this: At first I suggested it was because the Cayenne luxury sport/utility vehicle was bringing more women to the Porsche brand, but Gary said more women are buying Porsches across ALL the model lines.

My next thought suggested that as more women climb higher up the ladder of the business world, they also strive to achieve many of the same status symbols their male peers might have. Whether it is designer clothing, a nicer home, or a more luxurious vehicle, as a woman's income increases so must her desire for high-quality and high-performance in the things she purchases.

Ap_women_only_feature Appropriately, Porsche is now offering a a two-day woman-only Sport Driving School (PSDS) program in September that puts women behind the wheel at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, one of the most challenging racetracks in the country while Porsche racing pros guide them through each step.

This course is designed for the woman who enjoys driving and wants to experience the essence of Porsche automobiles as well as enhance her current driving skills. The Women's Only Performance course will not only allow her to pursue her passion for excitement; it will also cater to her need to pamper herself with luxurious accommodations, delicious food, and indulgent amenities.

Ap_porsche_sport_driving_school Women drivers will be able to experience the Porsche Boxster and Boxster S,  Cayman and Cayman S, as well as the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S on the Skid Pad, the Performance Driving Technique exercises, as well as an Autocross and time on the actual racing surface. Instructors demonstrate how to find the proper driving line, how to master some of the many technical corners of the track, and also sharpen basic skills during a timed Autocross and Cornering Drill. Skills are continually refined with on-track race and autocross sessions; women will also have an opportunity to drive a Cayenne on Barber's off-road course.

The exclusive Women's Only Performance Course is part of Porsche's special Ross Bridge Resort Package, which includes a 20% spa discount the day(s) following the course, group or private golf lessons on a world-class course, as well as complimentary yoga, pilates, and hiking trails. Additionally, the first evening also includes a fine dining experience with the staff of the PSDS while the latest fashions are presented throughout dinner.

If you are one of the lucky women who own such a magnificent performance vehicle, it only makes sense to learn how to control its power on an actual race course, guided by talented race instructors. The Women's-Only experience costs about $3000, and will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, September 18-19, 2007. (Travel and accommodations are in addition to this fee.) For more information, visit
