Shopping for a New Car? Go Green for 2009
Want to save fuel, money, AND the environment while you’re at it? The
thought of buying a new or different car while paying your gas credit
card payments may seem insane, but Autoblog and Consumer Reports have an idea for you.
You
don’t have to buy new, just buy smart. Buy pre-owned. Once that hybrid
owner drives that car off the lot, it’s lost a good percentage of it’s
value already. Just snap that baby up once they turn it in for the
newer model and blam! Saving money and the world.
Consumer
Reports created a list of the top pre-owned cars to snap up that will
help you save at the pump. The vehicles that top the list for Consumer
Reports, well, report, isn’t any surprise: Toyota and Honda rake in
the most rankings. Here is a basic rundown for you:
Under $10,000
2000 Honda Insight (average mpg: 51)
2001-02 Toyota Prius (average mpg: 41)
2000-05 Toyota Echo (average mpg: 38)
1998-2002 Chevy Prizm (average mpg: 32)
1998 Mazda Protégé LX (average mpg: 32)
1998-2000 Toyota Corolla LE (average mpg: 32)
1998-2001 Acura Integra LS manual (average mpg: 32)
$10,000 - $20,000
2004-06 Toyota Prius (average mpg: 44)
2001-03 Toyota Prius (average mpg: 41)
2006-07 Honda Civic Hybrid (average mpg: 37)
2003-05 Honda Civic Hybrid (average mpg: 36)
2007 Honda Fit Sport manual (average mpg: 34)
2007 Toyota Yaris Liftback manual (average mpg: 34)
According
to Autoblog, “Rankings are based on CR's own fuel economy tests, done
with a flow meter and repeatable drive cycle, and overall assessments
of the vehicle's quality and reliability likely play big roles in how
the list was compiled.”
So there you have it! Now you know what
used car to buy in order to save cash....believe us gals, you’ll need it!
