Woman Calls Police To Free Herself From Her Locked Car
Okay, maybe this is just too silly to be true, but a friend sent me this link today to tell me about a woman in Orem, Utah, whose car battery died, locking her inside her own car.
Apparently, when police arrived, they found the woman sitting inside her car, unable to get herself out. "She couldn't hear the officers' instructions through the rolled-up windows," reports the article, "so she motioned to them to call her on her cell phone."
Fortunately, the officers were able to communicate with the woman on her phone, explaining to her how to manually operate the slide lock mechanism inside the door panel to open the door and free herself.
"I'm just glad she had a cell phone to call for help," an officer said.
It makes me wonder what she was doing inside the car long enough to kill her battery. I'm tempted to make a blonde joke here, but don't want to risk the ire of any of our fair-haired readers. Instead, I'll just suggest you also enjoy this item over at YouTube:
I keep one of these LifeHammers inside my glovebox for emergencies. It's got two steel points perfect for bashing out window glass, and a sharp razor blade is imbedded in its handle to slice open locked seatbelts. While its true intent is to allow passengers to escape should an accident prevents doors from opening, this could be the ideal tool to have on hand if a similar situation should happen to you.
