ESPN's Amanda Amann, Hip-hop Icon Sway Join Urban Wheel Awards

Amandaamanmyspace Amanda Amann, co-host of ESPN's "Stylefest," is joining the star-studded list of celebrity presenters; Sway, a pivotal member of MTV's News team, has also signed on for the 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards (UWA). The UWA -- known as the "Oscars" of the auto industry -- will take place at the famed Fox Theatre in Detroit on January 15, 2008.

"I'm excited to be a part of the 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards," said Amann, a former MTV video jockey who helps out with ESPN's coverage of the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Racing Series. "I absolutely love cars. Instead of jewelry, I'm the girl who wants a car; instead of collecting shoes, I'd rather collect cars."

One of the newest faces to grace the ESPN network, Amann is giving new life to a sport which for years has been dominated by white males. Randi Payton, president and CEO of On Wheels, Inc., which has presented the UWA for the past 11 years, says, "The UWA celebrates diversity in the auto industry and Ms. Amann is the first black female correspondent in the history of drag racing. She is a pioneer and we are extremely delighted that she will be joining us this year." Amann hasn't just opened the door for new opportunities, many would say she has created a special bond both with fans and those involved in racing.

Sway_calloway Sway Calloway, considered by many to be an icon of hip-hop culture, is an entertainment scene veteran. He co-hosted a popular radio show in the 1990s before joining the MTV stable in 2000. During his tenure at the network, he documented some of the most important events in entertainment and pop-culture history including covering the Democratic and Republican national conventions for the youth generation.

"Sway has been a trailblazer in the world of media, and we are delighted he will join us for the Urban Wheel Awards, which honors people of color who have been trailblazers in the automotive world," says Randi Payton, President and CEO of On Wheels, Inc., which produces the UWA.

"For me this is an important event, as African Americans are a vital consumer base for the auto industry -- particularly the urban youth market," notes Sway.

Uwalogo The UWA honors auto industry leaders who transcend the mainstream and embrace diversity to create products and services that appeal to a larger customer base. The Urban Wheel Awards show is the only forum that recognizes the top African-American, Asian-American and Latino executives in automotive and ancillary industries. There will be top-notch entertainment, industry leaders and Hollywood stars presenting the UWA awards to winners in 12 categories.

The 12th Annual Urban Wheel Awards will be presented during Press days of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The NAIAS had over 90 internationally sanctioned exhibitors in 2007 and contributed more than $500 million to the metro Detroit region in 2006.
