Like father, like daughter. Emma McKinstry is one of only two women competing in Rally Ireland. So what's it like taking on the men, living up to her father's legacy and having her boyfriend as a co-driver?
"I’ve been rallying for about five years now. It has always been in the blood," said McKinstry.
"Dad has rallied for a lifetime and won a lot of championships. It was just being brought up around cars and being on quads or tractor lawn mowers - anything with wheels that moved really. That was the start of it. It was always there."
K&N Engineering, Inc. has formed a partnership with one of the hottest pairs in motorcycle racing: Tarah Gieger (#68) and Sarah Whitmore (#4) of BluestarrMX.com Racing. K&N, a company that started with innovative products for powersports, has never forgotten its roots and the sponsorship adds to the company's already impressive roster, which includes the Red Bull/KTM Supermoto team, the Proton MotoGP Team and many others.
Geiger and Whitmore made headlines during the 2004 season, competing in the Women's Motocross Association (WMA). Geiger won the 2004 Loretta Lynn National Championship, taking the title from Whitmore who was 1999, 2000 and 2003 Champion.
Racer Vanessa Florentino is gaining a lot of attention.She gained notice in the industry at the WMA Steel City national this past September where she fended off Jessica Patterson in the first moto and ultimately earned her spot in the winners circle. More recently she landed a sponsorship with Etnies Girl.
Leilani Munter goes green. Munter is not just a race car driver, she is also an biologist and activist. She is urging people to embrace the environment and "go green".
"I realize as a race car driver that I am not in an environmentally friendly sport," said Munter. "However, I am working on reducing my carbon footprint by finding ways to become carbon neutral." Read more about becoming eco-friendly at Leilani's website.
Jennifer Jo Cobb will attempt to make the season finale Busch Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. Cobb is working to secure sponsorship for select NASCAR Busch and ARCA Re/Max Series races for 2008. Between race events, Jennifer does appearances for her sponsors, is a public speaker, runs her businesses and works for the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
If she makes the field it will be quite a feat. It would be the first start by any female driver in the series this season.
Three of professional racing's leading women drivers -- Danica Patrick (IRL), Leilani Munter (NASCAR) and Melanie Troxel (NHRA) -- will continue on as Hostess(R) "Race Divas" under a sponsorship agreement with the brand famous for many of America's all-time favorite snack cakes.
The racing sponsorship program will involve Hostess® Twinkies®, Cup Cakes and Donettes. It wil feature a range of promotional activities,including special limited edition packaging and displays.
